Night Swim

Every once in a while we go swimming in the pool at night. We'll turn the pool light on and swim in the glowing water under the stars listening to the crickets chirping. Its very relaxing and when the water is super warm (like bath water) it is heavenly.

Obviously, the girls don't get to do this very often because in the summer by the time it gets dark it is past their bedtime and they are sleeping.
Well, tonight we got home later than normal and T had been asking all day if we could go swimming "at night". So when we got home, we waited till it was almost dark. We turned on the pool light and headed out. You should have heard the squeals of excitement over the glowing green water! They thought it was so beautiful. They were right, it was. The three of us went swimming and tried counting stars. They loved it. Both giggling and laughing over the pure joy of doing something "so fun, Mom!" I smile thinking about how excited they were. Sometimes its the littlest things that can make the greatest memories. Based on their reactions I'm sure they will remember it forever :)
I'm really glad they liked it. You know, as an adult sometimes we forget to really relish in the moment of those experiences. But they reminded me to appreciate it, not just for my sake, or for the memory they created for themselves, but also for the wonderful memory they created for me.
If you've never done it, I highly recommend it. Obviously, a lake will work too under the moonlight, but with little ones a pool with a light in it is probably safer. Besides, I swam in lakes at night as a teen and that black water is actually kinda scary, so maybe u better stick to the pool. If you don't have one, give it a try at an outdoor hotel pool sometime :)

Based on their reaction tonight, I bet there will be many requests for more 'night swims' this summer! ;)
